quarantine & chill

I decided to come back with a part two…

Yesterday I shared some of the TV shows that I’ve been loving during quarantine but then I realized not everybody wants to binge watch TV or get invested in a show. Some of you enjoy movies a lot more and I’ve been watching those as well. Keep on reading for some of my favorites that I’ve recently discovered.

6 Underground | Action Thriller | Netflix Original

This movie stars an actor that I thoroughly enjoy watching: Ryan Reynolds. His character fakes his death and goes on to recruit 5 others to go on a mission to take down a dictator. The catch? Only he knows who everyone else really is. They all refer to each other as their assigned number (1,2 and so on) in order to avoid attachments should something go wrong. This movie is full of action from the very beginning and will have you on the edge of your seat. As with most Ryan Reynolds’ movies, you can also expect a bit of comedy as well.

Extraction | Action Thriller | Netflix Original

This is another action movie that is mind-blowingly good (is that even a word?)!! It stars Chris Hemsworth, who we also know as Thor, so you know this movie gets BUSY! I’m excited just writing about it. I’ve watched it a solid 3x because I had to make everyone in my home watch it so naturally I watched it with them. This movie would’ve been epic to watch in theaters.. can you say Dolby? So how about I actually tell you what it’s about. Hemsworth’s character is hired to rescue the son of a crime lord who was kidnapped by his enemies and trouble ensues when the mission isn’t what he thought it would be.

The Banker | Drama | Apple TV Original

Based on a true story, this film explores two ambitious black men that devise a plan to fight housing inequality. I truly had no idea what this movie about about before watching it but I saw names like Anthony Mackie, Samuel L. Jackson and Nia Long so I was sold. This movie gives you a look at history and how Blacks were treated by banks when either trying to start a business or trying to own a home

The Hate U Give | Drama

This film is an absolute tearjerker. It will stir up some serious emotions in you so be sure to grab the Kleenex before watching. Star, played by Amandla Stenberg, is a black teenager that lives in a poor neighborhood but attends school across town in the suburbs. Similar to what I spoke of regarding the show All American, Star has to navigate through two different worlds: the one she grew up in and the one her parents’ think is best for her to adapt to. Star witnesses the shooting of her childhood friend by a police officer and has to decide what she should do. All too many times we’ve seen the killing of an unarmed black man at the hands of law enforcement so this movie is very on par with what is going on today. It’s such a beautiful movie; I encourage everyone to watch it. It is based off of the novel by the same name so if you’re a reader, dive into that as well.

A few other movies worth mentioning:
